Revelation 10:1-11 - The Angel and the Little Scroll

1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. 2 He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3 and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4 And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.”

Revelation 10:1-4

and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion  When the Lion of the Tribe of Judah speaks, those that have ears to hear attend to His message.  There is a message that is just for the final generation.  Revelation 10 describes the receiving and the delivering of the message.  To those that hear the message it is as sweet as honey when they receive it, but when they go to deliver the message, their experience will be bitter.  Several prophets refer to a final generation message during a time of great adversity.  But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  2 Timothy 3:1  Gabriel reveals to Daniel several times that the vision Daniel saw refers to the end times.  However, I think Amos said it best.  The lion will roar and who will not fear?

7 Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing
   without revealing his plan
   to his servants the prophets.

 8 The lion has roared—
   who will not fear?
The Sovereign LORD has spoken—
   who can but prophesy?

9 Proclaim to the fortresses of Ashdod
and to the fortresses of Egypt:
“Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria;
see the great unrest within her
and the oppression among her people.”

Amos 3:7-9

robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars  This mighty angel that John saw is the Son of God.  He comes in the clouds just as he ascended in the clouds.  His face and legs indicate that he has been through the fire and is coming prepared to go with us into the fiery furnace of the last days just as he was there in Babylon with Shadrach, Meshach and Abidnego.  He comes with the rainbow which gives Him legal authority to reclaim dominion of our planet that was forsaken when Paradise was lost.  The rainbow is the sign of our covenant or contractual agreement with the King of the Universe.

He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land   Jesus Himself will speak to the final generation soliciting them to deliver the final altar call to a planet at the end of its demise.  He will come again as the last Adam and reclaim dominion as the rightful reigning power as the King of Kings replacing all earthly monarchs and ending the reign of the Destroyer as current prince of this dark world.

When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4 And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down  John and Daniel had a similar experience because they both received messages delivered by Heaven they were to faithfully record that were not applicable to their generation.  This message, like the one given to Daniel, is sealed up until the final generation.  Daniel 8:17  Are we that generation?

5 Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. 6 And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay! 7 But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.”

Revelation 10:5-7

Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. 6 And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it   No one can take this kind of oath by God and all that He made unless it is God Himself.  Matthew 5:33-37  This Heavenly Messenger is Jesus, the Word of God making a vow to us that the perilous times of the final generation will not last one moment longer than necessary.  The moment God completes His work with humanity and accomplishes His goals, there will be no more delay!  This great mystery will be told to His prophets before He does His mighty acts just as Amos 3:7-9 declares.  Then probation will cease and the door of mercy will be closed, but the door to Heaven will be opened.  At the seventh trumpet, also known as the last trump, all the mystery regarding redemption will be revealed.  Just as the veil was ripped at the crucifixion of Christ, the sky (the veil separating Heaven and earth) will be ripped into and every eye shall behold Him.  Revelation 6:12-17

8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: “Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.”  9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.” 10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. 11 Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.”

Revelation 10:8-11

When John received this vision he was in the final season of his life, perhaps his final days.  He was also imprisoned on the Island of Patmos without a way to go forth and deliver this message.  He is inacting the experience of God's people anytime they receive a message from God.  The experience of the saints that have partaken of the Word of God is always a bittersweet experience.  You will feel the presence of the Creator and know the sweet savor of His deep abiding affection.  Then you will go forth to deliver the message and receive the bitter wrath of the world.  This particular demonstration by John is for the final generation because the entire gospel must go to the ends of the world during the final days as a witness to them and/or against them.  Then the end will come.  Join me as we learn of the bittersweet experience of the final generation as they deliver the final altar call to every person, nation, language and magistrate.  Learn more. . .
